Ack! I made a mistake in my cover letter to magazine

April 29th, 2008 by

I’m slowly working on publishing articles in magazines. I took a writing short pieces course and the the instructor liked my essay, “My Name Isn’t Mommy” and suggested I submit it. After checking a few publications, I decided to submit to the Christian Science Monitor’s Home Forum section. I always find really poignant and humorous essays there and thought mine would be a fit. I read the writer’s guidelines and prepared my essay and cover letter to submit through the submission form. I hit “send” and … oh no… I realized I wrote Christian Science and forgot the Monitor in the cover letter. UGH!!!! That one mistake earns me an “F” in freelance writing.

I can hope the editor will overlook my error, but based on what I’ve read about editors, making a mistake on the name is a big no-no. But I can’t submit somewhere else for three weeks which is the time frame CSM gives for submission response. Oh well, live and learn!
